“Love is the measure of our faith, the inspiration for our obedience, and the true attitude of our discipleship.”
How Do We Become True Disciples of Jesus Christ?
“If ye love me, keep my commandments.” John 14:15
A true disciple: Those who receive Christ Jesus and walk with Him.
When a lawyer (a Pharisee) asked Jesus to name the greatest commandment, “Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment.” Matthew 22:37-38
“And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.” Matthew 22:39
These two commandments provide direction not only for our lives, but also for the Lord’s Church on both sides of the veil.
Because love is the great commandment, it ought to be at the center of everything we do:
In our family
In our church callings
In our livelihood
Love initiates friendship, tolerance, civility, and respect. It overcomes divisiveness and hate. Our walk as disciples of Christ becomes more joyful. Our relationship with our Heavenly Father becomes more profound.
- Obedience becomes a joy rather than a burden.
